Live performance takes place in real time. I'm interested in what happens through time. How do we begin. How do we end. There is nothing more seductive than creating a new world - something out of nothing. Maybe it's escapism, maybe an obsession, maybe hope. I make work because I want to.
I employ aesthetic precision and extreme physicality to create worlds filled with iconic images. Playing with what the mind already knows, I pull recognizable references from everyday life and pop culture, appropriating them, in order to abstract established meanings, further shifting the viewers' perception.
The narration within my work belongs equally to performer, space and time. The space functions as a body with a unique character that transforms throughout the duration of the work. Sometimes it's left bare, other times heavily decorated to create structures within the original architecture of the space. The performer is ultimately the subject. Dealing with issues of gender and presentation, the physicality represents images from history, provoking memory. Through the passage of time the intent of the narration is exposed inviting a shift in perception.
